Reels vs TikTok vs Shorts: which platform is better?
Not sure whether Instagram Reels, TikTok or YouTube Shorts is the best platform to share your short-form videos? We’re here to help you determine which one is better for your content strategy.
Last year, YouTube launched its short-form video feature, YouTube Shorts, to compete with Instagram Reels and TikTok for the title of market leader in the short-form video space. As we all know, Instagram and YouTube have already cemented their status over the years as a key social and video platforms with loyal existing user bases in comparison to TikTok, a platform which burst on the scene in a similar way to Snapchat and Vine all those years ago and has monopolised the world of short video content… for now.
It comes as no surprise, therefore, that giants such as YouTube and Instagram are trying to get in on the action and topple TikTok from reigning supreme in the short-form world, but what does this mean for your content strategy?
What are the differences between each platform?
This comparison table of the key points provides a quick guide for all you need to know about each platform.
Which platform is better for your video content?
Each platform has their own benefits and all three share similarities with one another, so what it really comes down to when choosing the right platform is understanding what your objective is.
If you are looking to target Gen Z with short-form content that is over 60 seconds and are considering partnering with Gen Z influencers, then TikTok would be the best platform for you.
If you are looking for a platform that has a wider reach than TikTok, but still has the social factor, Instagram Reels would be the best option.
If you are looking for a wider reach, wider demographic and a platform that is more favourable in web search results, then YouTube Shorts is the best option. It also has two very important features that the other two platforms don’t: age restriction and a scheduling tool, two things that can be very important for brands when sharing their content.
